The Guidelines for Basic Adult Neurological Observation were developed by the provincial Neurosurgery Education and Outreach Network (NEON) to document the processes associated with the basic assessment of a patient’s neurological status. The Guidelines provide direction for local development of bedside neurological observation protocols to ensure consistency of neurological assessment within and across different organizations. For the individual patient, they provide a baseline from which changes in the patient’s neurological status may be identified, reported, and managed in a timely manner.
