The Ontario COVID-19 Vaccine Landscape

Dr. Roger Sandre is an infectious disease specialist working at Sudbury’s Health Sciences North for over 27 years. He will present us with evolving information on the COVID-19 vaccines as it is being deployed across our province. Please join us for this important session on the beginning of our community immunity!

Presenter: Dr. Roger Sandre

Dr. Sandre is a practicing Infectious Disease Specialist at Health Sciences North in Sudbury since 1994, establishing the first Infectious Disease Consultation service in Sudbury and NE Ontario. He completed his Medical School and Internal Medicine training at McMaster University and Infectious Disease training at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

Medical Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) at Health Sciences North, chairing the committee.

Medical Director of the Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPAC) overseeing the amalgamation of a three-site hospital IPAC program into a one site program and chairman of the IPAC committee for over 20 years.

Medical Director of the regional HIV Program in North Eastern Ontario (HAVEN Program) and involved in several HIV clinical trials in Canada.

Assistant Professor with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine – teaching both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate Internal Medicine residents.

Objectives:

By the end of the webinar, the participant will be able to describe the following:

1. The differences between vaccines available (Pfizer, Moderna) and vaccines to come (AstraZeneca, Jenssen, Others).
2. The safety concerns of those vaccines
3. The Ontario provincial strategy and compare to strategies available in other provinces and/or countries (e.g. UK)
4. The behavior expected post-vaccination (e.g. social distancing, mask wearing, return to work, etc)
